The Lakers are still evaluating ways to fill out the bottom of their roster after last week’s flurry of trades, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported. Los Angeles has at least one open spot after acquiring Walker Kessler, Quentin Grimes, Sandro Mamukelashvili and Collin Sexton, and that number could grow if further deals are completed. Free-agent forward Jonathan Kuminga continues to be linked to the franchise as it explores remaining options.
Hornets underline long-term approach
Charlotte has yet to finalize the trades involving LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, leaving president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson unable to discuss those moves publicly. Speaking with Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer, Peterson said the organization is focused on sustainable success rather than a quick postseason appearance. The Hornets won 28 of their final 38 games last season before initiating major roster changes this summer, a turnaround Peterson wants to build on methodically.
Tim Bontemps heads to Atlanta
Veteran NBA reporter Tim Bontemps is leaving ESPN for a strategic adviser role with the Atlanta Hawks, according to colleagues Brian Windhorst and Tim MacMahon. Bontemps will report directly to president of basketball operations Onsi Saleh. He spent eight years at ESPN after previous stints with the New York Post and The Washington Post, joining a growing list of media members who have transitioned to team front offices.
