NEW YORK — OG Anunoby practiced without limitations over the weekend and is on track to play when the Eastern Conference Finals open Tuesday night, the forward said Saturday.
Anunoby strained his right hamstring late in Game 2 of the Knicks’ May 6 victory over Philadelphia and missed the remainder of the second-round sweep. Speaking with reporters after Saturday’s workout, he called the setback “better than before,” contrasting it with the left-hamstring injuries that sidelined him during the 2024 conference finals against Indiana and again for nine games last November.
“It wasn’t like the previous ones, for sure,” Anunoby said. “It didn’t feel as bad as it had in the past when it happened.”
The 26-year-old was initially listed as questionable for Games 3 and 4 against the 76ers before being ruled out. He did light work at Wednesday’s practice, then participated fully on Friday and Saturday.
“He’s been back. He looks good to me,” guard Mikal Bridges said. “I think the fans and media worried a little bit more, but I know how OG works and how his body is. I think he’ll be all right.”
Before the injury, Anunoby averaged 21.4 points and 7.5 rebounds in eight postseason games, shooting 61.9% from the field and 53.8% beyond the arc. Miles McBride replaced him in the starting lineup for the last two contests.
New York, idle since completing the sweep, will learn its next opponent after Sunday night’s Game 7 between Cleveland and Detroit. “Everyone’s excited for the games to start,” Anunoby said. “Just be ready whenever it is.”
