Sacramento, Calif. — Guard Zach LaVine is not planning to walk away from his $49 million player option for the 2026-27 season, according to reporter Sam Amick during an appearance on Sactown Sports 1140’s “Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross.”

Amick said LaVine’s camp has permission to look for a sign-and-trade scenario in which the 31-year-old could opt out, sign at a lower annual salary and join another team. To date, no viable deal has surfaced, and Amick emphasized that LaVine will not enter free agency simply to gain independence.

Achiuwa expected back on modest deal

Free-agent big man Precious Achiuwa is “very, very likely” to return, ESPN 1320 insider James Ham reported in a radio segment. The 26-year-old impressed after arriving mid-season, but Sacramento’s cap constraints mean he will probably re-sign for the minimum or a slight raise using non-Bird rights.

Cap pressure could trigger veteran moves

Analyst Yossi Gozlan of Third Apron noted in his offseason preview that Sacramento currently projects to exceed the first tax apron in 2026-27 despite finishing near the bottom of the league last year. To avoid the tax, the front office may explore trading or buying out high-salary veterans.

Draft focus at No. 7

The Kings own the seventh pick in next week’s draft and are seeking a long-term building block. The club recently hosted point guards Darius Acuff and Kingston Flemings for private workouts, both viewed as strong candidates at that spot.
