Sources told ESPN that guard Trae Young intends to decline his upcoming player option with the Washington Wizards and test unrestricted free agency.
Details of the option and potential contract figures were not disclosed, but the move would position the three-time All-Star to negotiate a new deal on the open market once the league’s free-agency period opens.
Young, 27, averaged 25.7 points and 10.2 assists last season, his second year in Washington after a 2018–2024 stint with the Atlanta Hawks.
The Wizards have not publicly commented on Young’s reported decision.
