Former NBA guard Jeff Teague believes Evan Mobley should share the blame for Cleveland’s 111-101 defeat to Detroit in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Speaking on the “Club 520” podcast, Teague said the third-year forward is not being held to the same standard as star guards Donovan Mitchell and James Harden, who both shot poorly in the series opener.
“We always talk about James Harden and Donovan Mitchell, then Evan Mobley kinda just sneaks by everybody,” Teague said. “At some point, if you’re on a max deal, you’re supposed to have a 36-point night.”
Mobley has delivered balanced numbers throughout the postseason, contributing defensively and as a playmaker, but he has yet to produce the breakout scoring performance many expected. With Cleveland built to contend, Teague argued that the 22-year-old must provide an offensive spark when the team’s primary options struggle.
Game 2 is scheduled for later this week, giving Mobley and the Cavaliers another opportunity to even the best-of-seven series.
