The Miami Heat have initiated talks with free-agent guard Bradley Beal as the franchise continues to search for additional perimeter scoring, according to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson and Anthony Chiang.
Heat Weigh Mid-Level Flexibility
After acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo earlier in the offseason, Miami still holds roughly $6.5 million of its mid-level exception. Team officials have not decided how much of that amount could be directed toward Beal, who declined his player option with the Los Angeles Clippers before entering free agency. The Heat are also monitoring other high-profile options; league sources have linked Khris Middleton and Anfernee Simons to Miami, while LeBron James remains on the market following his decision to leave the Lakers.
Portland Sees Fit for Morant and Lillard
The Portland Trail Blazers believe the newly formed backcourt of Ja Morant and Damian Lillard can coexist effectively, team sources told Yahoo Sports’ Kelly Iko. Morant is reportedly eager to play alongside Lillard and learn from the veteran guard. Portland finished near the bottom of the league in three-point accuracy and turnovers last season, and the club hopes Lillard’s shooting paired with Morant’s rim attacks will boost the offense. Sean Highkin of the Rose Garden Report added that new owner Tom Dundon’s appetite for calculated risks was a key factor in acquiring Morant.
Nuggets Add Frontcourt Depth
The Denver Nuggets have agreed to a one-year contract with veteran big man Marvin Bagley III, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported. Bagley, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 draft, averaged 10.5 points and 6.1 rebounds last season while splitting time between the Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks. Despite multiple offers, he chose Denver, where he will join a front line anchored by Nikola Jokić and Aaron Gordon.
The Heat’s pursuit of Beal, Portland’s optimism about a Morant-Lillard partnership, and Denver’s signing of Bagley highlight a busy stretch as teams finalize rosters ahead of training camp.
