The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to place forward Dean Wade directly behind veteran guard James Harden on the franchise’s 2024 free-agency priority list, according to a person familiar with the team’s planning.

The approach signals that Cleveland will first attempt to lure Harden when the market opens this summer and, regardless of that outcome, will then turn its attention to retaining Wade. The 27-year-old forward appeared in 54 games this season, providing frontcourt depth and three-point shooting for head coach J.B. Bickerstaff.

Harden, 34, is poised to become one of the most high-profile names available, while Wade’s restricted status gives the Cavaliers the right to match any outside offer sheet.

Free agency begins June 30 at 6 p.m. ET, giving Cleveland a narrow window to secure both targets before rival clubs move in.
