The Phoenix Suns have reached a four-year, $48 million agreement to keep free-agent guard Collin Gillespie, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reports the deal is fully guaranteed.
Gillespie, 26, is coming off a breakout campaign—his second season in Phoenix—in which he set a franchise record with 232 made three-pointers. He averaged 12.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.2 steals while starting 80 games and helping the club secure a postseason berth.
Negotiations concluded over the past week with agents Jordan Gertler and James Dunleavy of Excel Sports Management, Charania added. The agreement marks the first multi-year contract for Gillespie, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Villanova in 2022 and spent his first three seasons on two-way deals—two with Denver and one with Phoenix—before signing a one-year minimum contract last summer.
Contract structure and cap outlook
Based on standard annual raises, the pact is projected to pay approximately $10.7 million next season, $11.6 million in 2027-28, $12.4 million in 2028-29 and $13.3 million in 2029-30, per Keith Smith of Spotrac.
Cap expert Yossi Gozlan estimates the new deal leaves the Suns about $4 million under the projected $200.5 million luxury-tax threshold with 12 players signed for next year. To retain free-agent guard Jordan Goodwin and fill out the roster without entering tax territory, Phoenix may need to shed additional salary.
The front office also faces negotiations with restricted free-agent center Mark Williams. Smith notes the team could create room by declining Jamaree Bouyea’s $2.6 million option and waiving Haywood Highsmith before his $3 million salary becomes fully guaranteed on January 10.
