The Boston Celtics refused to entertain trade proposals for six-time All-Star Jayson Tatum before finalizing a deal that shipped fellow wing Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.
According to Charania, Boston received multiple inquiries about Tatum “over the last couple weeks” but immediately ended those conversations. The team was, however, willing to discuss Brown, whose name had surfaced in numerous rumors throughout the offseason.
The resulting agreement sent Brown to Philadelphia in exchange for Paul George, two first-round draft picks and two second-round selections. Charania noted that Brown never asked to be moved but felt disrespected by the frequency of trade chatter.
Boston initially sought four to five first-round picks for the five-time All-Star before lowering its price when no club met that demand. New Sixers president Mike Gansey continued pursuing Brown after other teams backed away, ultimately securing the 27-year-old scoring guard along with the draft compensation.
Despite Tatum’s injury-shortened 2025-26 season following a torn Achilles, the Celtics still view him as the franchise cornerstone. The 26-year-old is expected to be fully healthy when the new campaign begins.
