Guard Donovan Mitchell emphasized his desire to remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers, telling The Athletic he hopes to “play here for as long as I can.”
Mitchell, 27, is under contract through the 2027-28 season and holds a player option for 2027. Cleveland’s front office is expected to pursue an extension that would secure the four-time All-Star beyond that date.
“The goal is to win, as long as we’re continuing to win at the highest level,” Mitchell said. “I love it. It’s a place that I feel like I can call home. I feel good. My fiancée feels good about it.”
The shooting guard has been the focal point of a roster that finished the regular season 52-30—tying for the fourth-best record in franchise history—and claimed the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference despite multiple injuries. Mitchell averaged 27.9 points per game, leading the team in scoring.
Cleveland opens the postseason Saturday against the Toronto Raptors, a series that will test the partnership Mitchell says he hopes will last well into the future.
