The Cleveland Cavaliers finalized two roster moves on Wednesday, inking second-round draft pick Meleek Thomas to a standard rookie contract and bringing in former University of Miami center Ernest Udeh Jr. on a two-way agreement.
Thomas, selected 34th overall in last month’s NBA Draft, heads to Cleveland after a standout freshman campaign at Arkansas. The 19-year-old guard averaged 15.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals across 37 games, shot 41.6 percent from beyond the arc, and earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team. A former McDonald’s All-American, he topped the Razorbacks in three-point percentage, free-throw percentage and steals, highlighted by a 30-point performance against Missouri in March.
Udeh, 6-foot-11, completed his collegiate career last season with Miami, where he posted 6.7 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game while securing ACC All-Defensive Team honors. Also a McDonald’s All-American, he previously spent time at Kansas and TCU before transferring to Miami for his senior year.
Thomas is expected to compete for backcourt minutes during the NBA Summer League, while Udeh will divide his time between the Cavaliers and their G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge, under the terms of his two-way deal.
