The Milwaukee Bucks moved swiftly to reach an agreement with Taylor Jenkins, launching an intensive recruitment effort before other NBA head-coaching vacancies materialized, according to The Athletic.
League sources told the outlet that general manager Jon Horst and owners Wes Edens and Jimmy Haslam traveled to Memphis early last week for a face-to-face meeting with Jenkins. Their objective: secure their preferred candidate before offseason dismissals triggered wider competition.
Milwaukee viewed Jenkins as the top coach on the market, a stance echoed in earlier reporting by Shams Charania. Around the league, the 39-year-old is regarded as a strong program builder and player-development specialist, a reputation that remained intact following his departure from the Grizzlies late last season.
There is also organizational familiarity. Jenkins previously served on Mike Budenholzer’s staffs in Atlanta and during the 2018-19 season in Milwaukee, experience that helped position him as a natural fit for a franchise seeking a reset rather than a rebuild.
By acting before the broader coaching carousel spun into motion, the Bucks avoided a prolonged search and landed their target ahead of rival teams with impending openings.
