Sixers Acquire Jaylen Brown, Breaking Up Boston’s Long-Running Duo

The Philadelphia 76ers have reached a trade agreement to acquire All-Star wing Jaylen Brown, formally ending his nine-season partnership with Jayson Tatum in Boston and reshaping the Eastern Conference landscape.

Brown, coming off one of the most productive individual campaigns of his career, supplies Philadelphia with the shot creation and perimeter defense it sought to ease the offensive burden on Joel Embiid. Analysts note that his tough shot-making could help the club stay competitive whenever Embiid rests. The 27-year-old also brings a history of durability that compares favorably to other available stars, such as Paul George.

Questions remain about Brown’s reduced rim attacks, occasional questionable shot selection and inconsistent off-ball defense, but league observers believe the 76ers will be stronger overall once he pairs with Embiid during the 2026-27 season.

Tatum’s Farewell

Jayson Tatum paid tribute to his longtime teammate on Instagram, writing that he is “forever grateful” for their journey from early playoff exits to an NBA championship. The 28-year-old forward, rehabbing an Achilles tear, will enter his first NBA season without Brown this fall.

LeBron Watch in Philadelphia

Reports of mutual interest between the 76ers and free-agent forward LeBron James have surfaced. Even if Philadelphia remains a long shot, simply being in the conversation is viewed as a sign of the franchise’s improved roster flexibility following the Brown deal.

Nets Rookie’s Status Uncertain

Brooklyn’s first-round pick Mikel Brown Jr. sat out the Nets’ opening two Summer League contests, and head coach Dutch Gaitley said it is still undecided whether the guard will debut Monday. The team has not disclosed why Brown missed the initial games; he battled a back injury during his lone college season.
