Former Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier has been directed to give up most of his $26.6 million salary for the 2025-26 NBA season, an arbitrator ruled this week.
The decision follows restrictions tied to Rozier’s pretrial release in an ongoing federal case. Those conditions, initially barring him from contacting anyone in the Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets organizations, still prevent interaction with Charlotte personnel. Because NBA contracts require players to be available to perform services for every team, the arbitrator concluded that Rozier’s inability to play for or against the Hornets amounts to non-performance.
In a recent court filing, attorney Jim Trusty wrote that failure to meet those contractual duties justifies the substantial forfeiture.
Rozier’s legal trouble deepened when federal prosecutors added a bribery count to an existing fraud indictment. Investigators allege he accepted a $100,000 payment for supplying bettors with advance notice that he would exit a March 2023 game early because of an injury. The 30-year-old guard has denied any wrongdoing, and the criminal case remains unresolved.
The financial penalty arrives as Rozier approaches free agency next month, leaving his playing status and income uncertain until the legal process concludes.
