Tim Hardaway Sr. told ESPN that his son, Tim Hardaway Jr., will not be able to wear the number the Miami Heat retired in the elder Hardaway’s honor after Hardaway Jr.’s recently agreed move to the team.

The Hall of Fame guard’s uniform is one of several the Heat have taken out of circulation, a policy the franchise maintains for all retired numbers. “He can’t wear my number,” Hardaway Sr. said, according to the report.

Hardaway Jr. has worn the same digit at previous stops, but the Heat will require him to select a new jersey once the transaction becomes official. The team has not yet announced which number the 32-year-old guard will choose.
