Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards will be out for several weeks after hyperextending his left knee and sustaining a bone bruise Saturday night, according to league sources.
Imaging showed no ligament damage, a crucial development for Minnesota’s playoff hopes, but Edwards is expected to miss the rest of the Timberwolves’ first-round series against the Denver Nuggets, the sources said.
If Minnesota advances, the four-time All-Star would likely miss at least part of the second round.
Edwards was injured late in the second quarter of Game 4 at Target Center when his left leg bent backward while contesting a shot. He left the floor in obvious pain and did not return.
The Timberwolves also lost starting guard Donte DiVincenzo just 79 seconds into the game with a torn Achilles tendon, leaving the team without its entire opening-night backcourt.
Despite the setbacks, Minnesota defeated Denver 112–96 to take a 3-1 series lead. Reserve guard Ayo Dosunmu, who started the second half in Edwards’ place, delivered a career-best 43 points on 13-of-17 shooting, including 5-for-5 from three-point range. The Timberwolves outscored the Nuggets 62–42 after halftime.
Game 5 is Monday night at Ball Arena in Denver.
