The Denver Nuggets will exercise their right to retain restricted free agent Spencer Jones by matching the offer sheet he signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to league sources familiar with the negotiations.
Because Jones is a restricted free agent, Denver had the option to equal any outside offer to keep him under contract. Details of the Thunder’s proposal and the length or value of Denver’s matching agreement were not disclosed.
Jones spent the most recent season with the Nuggets, contributing off the bench and providing depth in the frontcourt. Matching the offer prevents Oklahoma City from acquiring the 6-foot-8 forward and keeps Denver’s roster largely intact heading into the upcoming campaign.
Teams typically have 24 hours to match an offer sheet once it is formally signed and delivered. The Nuggets informed the league of their decision within the required window, sources said.
