Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards will miss multiple weeks after an MRI revealed a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The four-time All-Star was hurt late in the second quarter of Saturday’s Game 4 win over the Denver Nuggets. Edwards jumped to contest a layup by Cameron Johnson, landed awkwardly, and his left knee buckled. He remained on the floor clutching the knee before being assisted to the locker room. Imaging confirmed there is no ligament damage, but the injury timetable rules him out for the remainder of the first-round series.

Edwards entered the postseason already managing soreness in his right knee that cost him games near the end of the regular season. Through four playoff contests, he has averaged 18.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.3 blocks while shooting 35.8 percent from the field and 25.8 percent from three-point range.

Additional Backcourt Setback

Saturday’s victory also cost Minnesota starting guard Donte DiVincenzo, who suffered a torn right Achilles tendon early in the first quarter. Head coach Chris Finch grew emotional post-game while discussing DiVincenzo’s season and impact on the team.

With both starting guards sidelined, trade-deadline acquisition Ayo Dosunmu shouldered the offense, pouring in a career-high 43 points on 13-for-17 shooting, including a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc and 12-for-12 at the foul line.

“I didn’t know he was that damn good,” forward Julius Randle said of Dosunmu. “But damn, I’m glad we got him.”

The Timberwolves, holding a 3-1 advantage, aim to close out the series Monday when play shifts back to Denver, but they will do so without two key contributors.
