Nuggets Hold 93-88 Advantage Over Timberwolves Late in Game 2

DENVER — The Denver Nuggets carried a 93-88 lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves with 46.1 seconds remaining in the third quarter of Game 2 of their Western Conference first-round matchup Monday night.
Denver, already up 1-0 in the best-of-seven series, relied on a balanced effort that featured 22 points, 11 rebounds and three assists from center Nikola Jokić. Guard Tim Hardaway Jr. added 16 points on 4-for-9 shooting, while Bones Hyland chipped in 11 points and two made free throws that extended the margin to five.
Minnesota stayed close behind Anthony Edwards, who scored 28 points on 9-of-21 from the field and 7-of-9 at the line. The Timberwolves shot 47 percent overall and 46 percent from beyond the arc, matching Denver’s 47 percent accuracy from the floor.
Both clubs were even on the boards at 33 apiece, but the Nuggets held a decisive edge at the foul line, converting 21 of 26 attempts (81 percent) compared with the Timberwolves’ 13 of 21 (62 percent).
The game at Ball Arena was shown nationally on NBC and Peacock. Referees Dedric Taylor, Tony Brothers, Mitchell Ervin and Gediminas Petraitis officiated. Denver listed guard Peyton Watson (hamstring) as out, with an estimated return of April 23.
Game 3 is scheduled for Minneapolis, where the series will shift to Target Center later this week.
