NEW YORK — San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama had an object hurled at him by a group of Knicks fans outside the team’s Manhattan hotel on Thursday, June 11, shortly after the Spurs’ dramatic Game 4 against the Knicks.
The incident occurred as the 7-foot-4 center was walking toward the hotel entrance. Witnesses said several fans wearing Knicks gear shouted at Wembanyama before one of them tossed an unidentified object in his direction. Security personnel quickly placed themselves between the player and the crowd.
No injuries were reported, and Wembanyama continued into the hotel without further confrontation. It was not immediately clear whether police made any arrests or if the NBA will review the matter.
The Spurs and Knicks had battled through a tightly contested Game 4 earlier in the evening, adding tension to the atmosphere outside the hotel.
