Early-Morning Blaze Ravages Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra’s Coral Gables Residence

Coral Gables, Fla. — Miami-Dade County firefighters battled a massive predawn blaze Thursday that left significant damage at the home of Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, officials said.
Fire rescue crews received the first call at 4:36 a.m. and ultimately deployed more than 20 units, attacking the flames from both the ground and the air. Authorities reported no injuries. Spoelstra was not inside when the fire began; he and the Heat had played Wednesday night in Denver, and the team’s charter plane did not touch down in Miami until 5:11 a.m.
The coach arrived at his residence shortly after landing to find firefighters already working to contain the blaze. Smoke continued to rise from portions of the property for more than three hours before officials declared the fire contained.
County officials said the flames were restricted to Spoelstra’s property, and no neighboring homes were affected.
Public records indicate Spoelstra purchased the five-bedroom, six-bathroom house in December 2023.
