Washington is currently refusing to discuss any deal involving 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis, according to Marc J. Spears of Andscape/ESPN.
Spears reported that the Wizards “are not entertaining trade offers” and have stopped taking calls from rival front offices about the 31-year-old forward. One league executive told Spears that general manager Will Dawkins is a “huge fan” of Davis, a view that helps explain the organization’s stance.
The report surfaces one day after Davis was mentioned as a possible target for Golden State in a series of hypothetical blockbuster scenarios tied to LeBron James. Hoops Wire noted Monday that the Warriors had explored ways to acquire Davis but would likely need a third team because Washington did not want to absorb Jimmy Butler’s contract.
Since those early conversations, the market has shifted. James informed the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday that he will test free agency, yet the Wizards remain unwilling to part with Davis, Spears added.
The NBA offseason often produces rapid changes, but for now Washington appears intent on building around Davis rather than moving him.
