PHILADELPHIA, July — The Philadelphia 76ers have reached a two-way agreement with shooting guard Caleb Love, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Love, 24, spent last season on a two-way deal with the Portland Trail Blazers after five collegiate campaigns—three at North Carolina and two at Arizona. The 6-foot-4 rookie appeared in 49 games, starting once, and averaged 10.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 20.7 minutes. He shot 38.8% from the floor and 31.8% beyond the arc.

Inserted into Portland’s rotation during a late-season playoff push, Love showcased aggressive on-ball defense and creative playmaking. Although two-way players are ineligible for the postseason, he helped the Trail Blazers secure a play-in berth before the club fell to San Antonio in the first round.

Love was later involved in a brief controversy when new Portland owner Tom Dundon left the team’s two-way players, including Love, at home for the first two playoff games in San Antonio. Dundon later said he had been unaware that two-way players typically travel with their teams during the postseason.

In Philadelphia, Love joins a crowded backcourt featuring starters Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe, recent free-agent signee Anfernee Simons and first-round draft pick Labaron Philon. Earlier today, the 76ers also secured a two-way deal with Rayan Rupert, leaving one of their three allotted two-way slots still open. Both Love and Rupert played for Portland last season.
