The Boston Celtics used the No. 27 selection in Wednesday night’s NBA Draft to take Houston forward/center Chris Cenac, adding a 19-year-old with notable length and long-term upside to their frontcourt.
Cenac, listed at 6-11 with a 7-5 wingspan, started 36 of 37 games for the Cougars during the 2025-26 season. He averaged 9.5 points and 7.9 rebounds in 24.8 minutes, while hitting 30 of 90 attempts from beyond the arc (33.3%). In three NCAA tournament outings, he posted 10.0 points and 12.3 boards per game.
Scouting reports highlight Cenac’s mobility and defensive potential but point to persistent foul trouble and inconsistent interior scoring. Analysts believe he may need time before assuming a regular NBA role, yet Boston’s track record of developing prospects—most recently Hugo Gonzalez and Baylor Scheierman—suggests the organization is prepared to be patient.
Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported that New Orleans considered moving into the first round to target Cenac, but Boston kept the pick and intends to groom him as a modern stretch big.
