Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green believes the main question surrounding LeBron James is whether the Los Angeles Lakers star will suit up next season, not where he might play if he does return.
Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast, Green said he tries to separate personal relationships from basketball discussions but offered his view on the widespread speculation: “I don’t think it’s a matter of if he goes to another team or not. I think it’s a matter of if he continues playing or not. I don’t foresee it like he’s gonna go to Phoenix, he’s gonna go to Golden State.”
Rumors have linked James to potential stints with the Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks and a continued run with the Lakers. Green’s comments contrast with that narrative, suggesting retirement remains a real option for the 20-time All-Star.
James has not publicly committed to playing the 2025-26 NBA season. Until he does, teams and fans are left to monitor any signals from his close circle, which includes Green.
Earlier this year, James addressed another topic some viewed as a retirement hint—his growing interest in golf. He dismissed any connection between the hobby and his basketball future, saying, “I’m happy that I picked it up at this point in my life, but that has nothing to do with my decision on my playing career… The main thing is my love for the game of basketball.”
A definitive answer on James’ future is expected once he either signs a new contract or formally announces his retirement.
