Luka Doncic inks three-year, $165 million deal with Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers confirmed Saturday that guard Luka Doncic has agreed to a maximum extension worth $165 million over three seasons. Word of the agreement first emerged midday via ESPN’s Shams Charania, and the franchise formally announced the contract during a 2:30 p.m. ET news conference.

After the paperwork was complete, Doncic traveled to The Sphere in Las Vegas to attend Saturday night’s Backstreet Boys show, where he joined the group and several Lakers representatives backstage. A widely shared photo captured the guard alongside team governor Jeanie Buss, future majority owner Mark Walter, general manager Rob Pelinka, head coach JJ Redick and players Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber, Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt, Jaxson Hayes and Adou Thiero.

Doncic revealed during an April conversation with ESPN’s Malika Andrews that the ’90s boy band is his personal favorite, making the post-signing celebration a fitting choice.

The five-time All-Star posted averages of 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 7.7 assists last season following his February trade from the Dallas Mavericks, helping Los Angeles solidify its playoff positioning in the Western Conference.
