Portland Trail Blazers interim head coach Tiago Splitter said Thursday he hopes to return next season, emphasizing positive ties with owner Tom Dundon and general manager Joe Cronin.

“I’ve told you guys I want to stay,” Splitter said during exit interviews. “My relationship with Tom and Joe is great. There’s a lot of talk out there, some of it is clickbait.”

League observers widely expect Portland to pursue a different coaching direction, but the organization has not announced a decision. Splitter noted that conversations with the front office are ongoing and that “there are still some things to talk through.”

The former NBA center assumed the helm in October after the dismissal of Chauncey Billups. Under Splitter, the Blazers finished 42-40 and reached the playoffs for the first time in five years.

Reflecting on his performance, Splitter acknowledged room for growth. “I’m not Phil Jackson,” he said, adding, “I got better as the season went on.” Whether that improvement secures him the job remains undecided.
