Atlantic Division Teams Map Summer Moves as Nets Eye Free Agency Splash

Brooklyn, Boston, Philadelphia and Toronto are approaching the offseason with distinctly different agendas as the draft and free-agency periods draw near.
Nets weigh big spending without lottery help
The Nets, coming off a losing season and holding no top-five draft pick, have little motivation to tank in 2026-27. According to the New York Post, Brooklyn is positioned to be a major free-agency player and has been linked to Lakers guard Austin Reaves, although league observers expect him to stay in Los Angeles. Other restricted free agents who could fit alongside Michael Porter Jr. include Tari Eason, Jalen Duren and Peyton Watson. Brooklyn may also explore trading up in the draft, though executives consider a climb into the top tier unlikely.
Celtics consider roster tweaks over overhaul
In a Spotrac offseason preview, Keith Smith outlines three paths for the Celtics: bring back the same group, chase a blockbuster trade, or target low-cost depth moves. Smith views the third route as the most probable, which would likely spell the end of Nikola Vucevic and Dalano Banton in Boston. Potential additions cited include Anfernee Simons, Quentin Grimes and John Collins.
Sixers face June 29 option decisions
Philadelphia must act on three team options before the June 29 deadline, reports the Philly Voice. Forward Dominick Barlow earned rotation minutes after arriving on a two-way deal, but writer Adam Aaronson expects the Sixers to decline his option and negotiate a longer contract. A similar strategy could apply to Trendon Watford, whose option decision would trim his cap hold from $2.8 million to a little over $2.4 million but limit trade flexibility. Conversely, Aaronson predicts Philadelphia will pick up Dalen Terry’s non-guaranteed $2.6 million option.
Raptors search for value at Nos. 19 and 50
Assistant general manager Dan Tolzman told Sportsnet that the advent of NIL money has reduced the likelihood of coveted prospects slipping to the 20s. Still, the Raptors are confident they can uncover another late-first-round contributor—similar to JaKobe Walter, drafted 19th in 2024—when they select at Nos. 19 and 50 this year.
