Suns weigh Brooks extension, set offseason priorities

The Phoenix Suns plan to open extension talks with forward Dillon Brooks this summer, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. Brooks, entering the final season of his contract, can sign for as much as four years and a little more than $125 million. Team officials, however, are not expected to reach that maximum figure, mindful that a new deal would begin when the Canadian forward turns 32.

Brooks posted a career-best 20.2 points per game in 2025/26, but his efficiency fluctuated and his scoring spike was aided by Jalen Green’s extended injury absence, Fischer reported. Despite the uncertainty over terms, Brooks said at season’s end that he hopes to “run it back,” praising general manager Brian Gregory for “believing in me and understand[ing] how I work.”

Retaining backcourt depth tops free-agency list

Radio host John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 indicated the Suns’ first two free-agent priorities are point guards Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin. Restricted free-agent center Mark Williams is also on the agenda, though his situation is considered secondary to the backcourt negotiations, Gambadoro added.

Ishbia shuts down Booker trade speculation

During a Thursday news conference, owner Mat Ishbia dismissed any idea that four-time All-Star Devin Booker could be moved. “Devin Booker’s our franchise player,” Ishbia said. “Devin Booker’s going to be here… and lead us to a championship.” Ishbia also rejected Tom Izzo’s recent claim that the longtime Michigan State coach had been offered Phoenix’s head-coaching job in 2025, saying Izzo’s remarks were misunderstood and stressing that the two speak frequently.

Front-court upgrade on offseason checklist

The Suns ranked 27th in defensive rebounding percentage last season, a shortcoming that Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic believes will push the front office to seek help at power forward. Rankin also questioned whether the club will stay committed to a point-guard-less lineup after Booker and Green shared the floor for only 27 games.
