The New York Knicks are still evaluating candidates for their final roster slot, and veteran guard Landry Shamet is a leading contender, according to the New York Post. The 27-year-old appeared in 50 games for New York last season and has stayed in the area to work out with hopes of re-signing. Other possibilities include Malcolm Brogdon, while Malik Beasley is viewed as unlikely. Earlier this week, Marc Stein reported that Ben Simmons turned down a veteran-minimum offer from the Knicks.

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas accepted a one-year, $6 million qualifying offer that carries a no-trade clause. Erik Slater of ClutchPoints writes that the arrangement signals Thomas may not figure into Brooklyn’s long-term plans. The 23-year-old has produced high scoring totals but is considered undersized for a shooting guard and has struggled defensively, factors that could influence his free-agency market next summer.

A survey of nearly 700 Milwaukee Bucks fans conducted by The Athletic’s Eric Nehm found muted championship expectations: 81 percent said they are “not that confident” or “not at all confident” about the team winning the title this season. General manager Jon Horst received a more favorable assessment, with 83 percent expressing confidence in his direction, while 63 percent voiced little or no faith in head coach Doc Rivers.

Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame over the weekend. Despite the honor, Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times noted that Donovan’s primary task remains leading the Bulls back to playoff relevance; Chicago has reached the postseason only once in his four-year tenure.
