INDIANAPOLIS — Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, sidelined all season while recovering from a torn Achilles, revealed that a severe case of shingles on his face has added to his difficulties.
“My eye was basically closed shut and it was all over my face,” Haliburton said, noting persistent swelling, significant itching and partial eyebrow loss. The 24-year-old added that “unbelievable amounts of medication” have provided little relief and contributed to notable weight gain. Despite conditioning concerns, he reported steady progress with the Achilles and expects to be fully cleared for training camp.
Siakam: Health Alone Won’t Fix the Pacers
Forward Pascal Siakam warned that simply getting healthy players back will not guarantee improvement next season. “It’s going to take a lot of rebuilding,” he said, emphasizing the need for “a level of seriousness” throughout the summer to regain a winning identity.
Carlisle Praises Effort During Grueling Year
Head coach Rick Carlisle commended his roster for maintaining effort after a 1-13 start and a 16-game losing streak, finishing 4-7 over the final 11 contests. “It’s a humbling year,” Carlisle said. “Our guys played their butts off the entire year.”
Key Contract Deadlines
According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, Indiana enters the off-season $11.7 million over the luxury tax line and $3.2 million above the first apron. Management must decide on:
- Micah Potter — $2.8 million team option, deadline June 29
- Kam Jones — $2.2 million contract; remainder becomes fully guaranteed June 30 (currently $1.1 million guaranteed)
- Quenton Jackson — salary jumps from $275K to $2.6 million if still on roster July 15
Indiana’s front office will weigh those decisions while monitoring Haliburton’s recovery and mapping out the roster overhaul Siakam says is required.
