The Cleveland Cavaliers are maintaining parallel pursuits of two high-profile free agents—LeBron James and Jonathan Kuminga—according to a report from HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

James, an unrestricted free agent for nearly a month, remains the franchise’s primary target. Cleveland has been in the running for the 39-year-old forward alongside the Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors, though reports indicate the Warriors are pessimistic about their chances.

While monitoring James’s decision, the Cavaliers continue to track Kuminga, a 23-year-old forward who finished last season with the Atlanta Hawks after a trade from Golden State. Kuminga averaged 12.2 points and 5.6 rebounds in 2023-24 and has drawn interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, LA Clippers and Milwaukee Bucks.

Cleveland’s limited salary-cap space complicates any bid for either player. League sources told HoopsHype that the contracts of Max Strus and Dennis Schroder could be moved to create additional flexibility. Executives believe roster and cap maneuvering would become significantly more complex if the Cavaliers attempt to land both James and Kuminga.

The organization’s interest in Kuminga predates the current free-agency period. The forward has previously worked out in Cleveland, and his agent, Aaron Turner, is from nearby Orange, Ohio.

For now, the Cavaliers remain focused on James while keeping the door open for Kuminga, leaving open the possibility—however challenging—of bringing both forwards to Northeast Ohio.
