The Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans have been mathematically removed from postseason contention, trimming the Western Conference field to 10 teams.
Memphis was eliminated Wednesday night after a loss to the San Antonio Spurs. New Orleans’ hopes ended the previous evening when the Pelicans fell to the New York Knicks.
With both clubs out, the Western Conference playoff and play-in participants are locked in: the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Clippers, Portland Trail Blazers and Golden State Warriors. Final seeding remains unsettled over the season’s closing stretch, but the list of qualifiers is now set.
