Actor Timothee Chalamet said the 2009 documentary “More Than a Game,” which chronicles LeBron James and his high-school teammates, served as a key reference while preparing for his upcoming movie Marty Supreme.

Speaking on the Mind the Game podcast, Chalamet explained that the film about James’ teenage years helped him capture the competitive mindset he needed to portray 1950s table-tennis champion Marty Reisman. “That was hugely impactful for me,” the actor said. “I didn’t find athletic greatness in my own life, but I was able to find it in acting.”

Chalamet, a regular courtside presence at New York Knicks games, noted that James’ ability to navigate early fame and maintain focus resonated with him while taking on the highly ambitious role. The 28-year-old actor is best known for leading roles in the Dune franchise and 2023’s Wonka.

Marty Supreme is directed by Josh Safdie and centers on Reisman’s rise from New York youth prodigy to world-renowned table-tennis showman. No release date has been announced.
