Oklahoma City — Thunder executive vice president and general manager Sam Presti described the decision to move guard Lu Dort as “a financial decision,” confirming that salary considerations drove the deal.

Earlier in the day, Dort was sent to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-team trade that also delivered forward Zaccharie Risacher to the Dallas Mavericks. Specific financial details were not disclosed, but Presti indicated the organization needed greater flexibility under the league’s salary cap structure.

Dort, 27, departs Oklahoma City after five seasons with the Thunder. The Canadian guard went undrafted in 2019 before earning a full roster spot and establishing himself as one of the franchise’s top perimeter defenders.

The Thunder have not announced corresponding roster moves. Presti said the club will address additional offseason decisions once the league’s transaction window fully opens.
