Washington guard Trae Young is expected to play his first game for the Wizards on Thursday when the team hosts the Utah Jazz, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Head coach Brian Keefe told reporters that the four-time All-Star will be limited to roughly 17–20 minutes (via Josh Robbins of The Athletic). The appearance will mark Young’s first action since Dec. 27, when he was still with the Atlanta Hawks.

Washington acquired the 27-year-old point guard in a Jan. 9 trade, but right leg issues—a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee and a quadriceps contusion—kept him off the court. The Wizards said on Feb. 19 that Young had begun ramping up on-court work; his debut comes almost two weeks later.

Young suffered the MCL sprain on Oct. 29, returned on Dec. 18 and played in five of Atlanta’s next six games, including one back-to-back, before being sidelined again. He has appeared in a career-low 10 games this season, averaging 19.3 points, 8.9 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 28.0 minutes while shooting 41.5% from the field and 30.5% from deep.

Over 493 regular-season contests, the former No. 5 overall pick owns career averages of 25.2 points, 9.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 43.2% overall and 35.1% from three-point range.

After Thursday’s home game, the Wizards begin a four-game road trip that opens Sunday in New Orleans.
