During All-Star Sunday, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James addressed reporters about three main topics: his long-running rivalry and camaraderie with Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, the Lakers’ inconsistent season, and his undecided plans for next year.
Looking Back with Curry and Durant
The 21-time All-Star grew emotional when discussing the shared history among the trio. “It’s always a pleasure and an honor to see those guys,” James said, noting that their careers will remain “interlocked” forever. Although Curry missed the exhibition with a knee injury, James and Durant guided their squad to the All-Star championship game before falling to a younger U.S. lineup led by Anthony Edwards.
Lakers’ Hit-or-Miss Season
James declined to predict how far Los Angeles can go once fully healthy. “It’s too hard to really say what we’re capable of,” he told reporters. “When we’ve played some of our best basketball this season, we’ve looked really good. On the other side, when we’ve been terrible, we’ve looked disgusting.”
He emphasized that the regular season serves as a chemistry-building period for playoff hopefuls and said the priority is getting everyone on the floor together. That includes recently acquired shooter Luke Kennard, whom the Lakers intend to integrate as soon as possible.
Free Agency Still Up in the Air
Asked about his outlook for next season, the four-time MVP remained non-committal. “When I know, you guys will know,” James said, adding that upcoming free agency does not alter his current motivation. “Same mind factor… the marathon is over, and now the sprint is about to start.”
