SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State guard Stephen Curry will stay home for the Warriors’ upcoming trip to Philadelphia, Cleveland and Chicago while he continues treatment on a left thigh contusion, head coach Steve Kerr said Tuesday night.
Curry was scheduled for an official evaluation Thursday, but Kerr indicated the four-time champion is a “long shot” to play this weekend. After consulting with director of sports medicine Rick Celebrini, the team decided the two-time MVP would remain in the Bay Area instead of joining the three-game road stretch, which begins Thursday against the 76ers.
The injury occurred last Wednesday during a home loss to the Houston Rockets. By the time the Warriors return, Curry will have missed at least five contests. Kerr expressed optimism that the 37-year-old could be back for Golden State’s next home game on Dec. 12 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The club will have four off-days and two practices between the road finale in Chicago and the Timberwolves matchup.
Butler’s Status Uncertain
The Warriors may also be without forward Jimmy Butler when they open the trip in Philadelphia. Butler sat out the second half of Tuesday’s 124-112 defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder with soreness in his left knee. He had entered the game listed as questionable because of a glute contusion and has already dealt with ankle and back issues this season.
“I don’t know anything more,” Kerr said. “I didn’t even know he was out until about a minute before the second half when someone told me in the huddle.”
Warriors Fall to .500
Golden State dropped to 11-11 after losing to Oklahoma City, capping a 2-3 homestand. The Warriors erased a 22-point deficit in the third quarter and briefly grabbed the lead in the fourth, buoyed by Seth Curry, who scored 14 points in 14 minutes off the bench in his team debut. The Thunder closed on a strong run behind reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who finished with 38 points and lifted Oklahoma City to 21-1.
