The New York Liberty have selected Golden State Warriors assistant Chris DeMarco as their next head coach, according to multiple sources, including ESPN’s Shams Charania. The decision was finalized on November 21, 2025.

DeMarco, currently in charge of the Bahamian men’s national team, has spent more than a decade with Golden State. He joined the organization in 2012 under then-coach Mark Jackson and remained on staff when Steve Kerr took over in 2014. Over that span, DeMarco rotated through the video department, scouting, player development and, most recently, a front-bench assistant role that placed him at the center of the Warriors’ defensive planning. He has worked extensively with guards Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole during their tenures in San Francisco.

The Liberty’s search narrowed to two active NBA assistants—DeMarco and Jama Mahlalela of the Toronto Raptors—before settling on Golden State’s coach. Former Brooklyn Nets assistant Will Weaver and current Phoenix Mercury associate head coach Kristi Toliver, who previously served as an assistant with the Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks, were also among the finalists.

Golden State has not confirmed when DeMarco will depart the Warriors’ bench. WNBA training camps are scheduled to open in April, giving both organizations several months to navigate the transition.
