Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic has been medically cleared to resume all basketball activities and has already started his offseason training program, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported.
Doncic, 27, suffered a Grade 2 strain of his left hamstring in early April, sidelining him for the entirety of the Lakers’ 2025-26 playoff run. Team sources told ESPN he received clearance on May 28, roughly two and a half weeks after Los Angeles was eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals.
Before the injury, the four-time All-NBA guard led the league in scoring at 33.5 points per game, earned Western Conference Player of the Month honors for March, and finished fourth in MVP voting. The Lakers went 15-2 during that March surge.
During the postseason, Doncic pursued several treatment options—including a trip to Spain for specialized therapy—in an attempt to return, but later acknowledged he was still “a couple of weeks away,” suggesting the NBA Finals would have been his earliest possible target date.
With clearance secured, Doncic plans to remain stateside instead of joining the Slovenian national team for this summer’s FIBA World Cup qualifiers. The additional rest and conditioning time is expected to prepare him for Lakers training camp in September.
The three-time All-Star has also been involved in roster discussions. Speaking recently in Spanish, he said the Lakers need “mainly shooters and a big man who can run the pick-and-roll and jump so I can pass to him,” noting that added perimeter threats would reduce double-teams against him.
