The Oklahoma City Thunder seized a 2-0 advantage in their Western Conference semifinal by defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 125-107 on Thursday night at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma City opened the contest with a 7-0 burst, but buckets from Rui Hachimura and LeBron James steadied Los Angeles. The Thunder still held a 27-23 edge after one period.
In the second quarter, Austin Reaves and Luke Kennard sparked the Lakers to their first lead. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander collected his third personal foul, limiting his impact, and Los Angeles carried a 58-57 lead into halftime.
Hachimura drilled a corner three to begin the third, and Gilgeous-Alexander was whistled for a fourth foul—upgraded to a Flagrant 1 for an elbow on Reaves—while Alex Caruso drew a technical for disputing the call. With Gilgeous-Alexander on the bench, the Thunder erupted, hitting long-range shots and controlling the offensive glass during a 32-14 run that built a 93-80 advantage entering the fourth.
The Lakers trimmed the deficit with a 9-2 push early in the final quarter, but Chet Holmgren’s three-pointer halted the momentum. An ensuing 8-0 Thunder spurt restored control, and Oklahoma City cruised to the finish.
