One Year After Blockbuster Deal, Luka Doncic Says He “Feels Great” With Lakers

Feb. 1 will mark 12 months since the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks, ending the guard’s seven-year stint in Texas. Speaking with Melissa Rohlin of the California Post, the 26-year-old said the move has proved beneficial both on and off the court.

“I’d probably say it’s all going to turn out good,” Doncic recalled about his initial reaction to the 2025 deadline deal. “At that time, I didn’t know. I was shocked. But right now, I feel like I’m in a great place.”

Long-Term Commitment in Place

Doncic reinforced his commitment to Los Angeles by signing an extension last summer. The four-time All-NBA selection said he is comfortable with the team, the city, and the fan base. “It’s a big opportunity for me,” he explained. “I feel great where I am. The team is good. I feel like I’m myself, personally. I feel great here. I like living in L.A. I love the fans. So, I’m really in a good spot right now.”

Injuries Slow Early Progress

The Lakers have shuffled through numerous starting lineups this season while battling injuries, a situation Doncic believes has masked the roster’s true potential. “We had a lot of injuries; I think we had the most starting lineups in the NBA,” he noted. “But, obviously, when we’re all healthy, I think we’re a great team.”

Looking Ahead to the Deadline

With the trade deadline approaching, Los Angeles continues to evaluate ways to optimize the roster around its newest franchise cornerstone. League reports indicate several front-court players have interest in joining Doncic in Los Angeles, drawn by both his playmaking and the spotlight of the Lakers brand.

The Lakers return to action on Jan. 24 in Dallas, where Doncic will face his former team at American Airlines Center nearly one year after the trade.
