Lil Wayne echoes Lakers’ complaints about officiating after Game 2 defeat in Oklahoma City

Hip-hop star Lil Wayne joined a chorus of Los Angeles Lakers supporters who blasted the officiating crew during Thursday’s Game 2 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, a matchup that left L.A. trailing 2-0 in the Western Conference series.

While the game unfolded at Paycom Center on May 8, 2026, the multi-platinum rapper posted on X, formerly Twitter, calling Thunder contests “unwatchable” and joking that the referees “are even dressed in their colors.” His remarks mirrored the visible anger shown on the floor by Austin Reaves, LeBron James and head coach JJ Redick.

Reaves argued repeatedly with official John Goble, at one point confronting him at midcourt after a disputed jump-ball sequence he felt was mishandled. Redick, who drew a technical foul in the first quarter, later cited several missed calls and insisted the Thunder are “tough enough to beat as it is without a favorable whistle.”

Los Angeles also objected to what players considered obvious shooting fouls that were ruled non-shooting, wiping out potential points. Despite the uproar, the Thunder protected home court to secure the 2-0 edge.

The criticism is familiar for Oklahoma City. Opponents have increasingly complained that the club—and All-NBA guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in particular—benefits from generous rulings. Lil Wayne, a longtime Lakers fan, amplified that narrative with his post, underscoring the frustration both inside and outside the locker room.

The series shifts to Crypto.com Arena for Game 3, where the Lakers will try to cut into the deficit without the distraction of hostile whistles.
