LeBron James Greets New Rams Defensive End Myles Garrett as Blockbuster Trade Shakes Los Angeles

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James used social media on June 3, 2026 to welcome star pass rusher Myles Garrett to Southern California, one day after the Los Angeles Rams introduced the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year at their Woodland Hills practice facility.

Garrett, 28, arrived in a splashy trade that sent young edge rusher Jared Verse and first-, second- and third-round draft picks to the Cleveland Browns. The deal immediately elevated the Rams to Super Bowl-favorite status and paired Garrett with reigning league MVP Matthew Stafford.

Nobody understands the move from Ohio to Los Angeles better than James. The 41-year-old forward left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Lakers in 2018 and delivered a championship in his second season. With NBA free agency looming, his public greeting to Garrett drew attention around the league but offered no clear hint about his own plans.

During his introductory press conference on June 2, Garrett said he values his long-standing relationship with James. “He’s been a positive force in my life, giving me advice whenever he can,” Garrett told reporters. “I’m sure we’ll have more conversations now that we’re in the same city.” Garrett added that he has not yet spoken directly with James since the trade.

James remains eligible to hit the open market this summer, leaving Lakers fans to monitor both his decision and the Rams’ highly touted defensive addition as Los Angeles prepares for another busy sports offseason.
