Lakers Head to Houston for Game 6 After Missing First Closeout Chance

The Los Angeles Lakers will attempt to finish their first-round series against the Houston Rockets on Friday, May 1, after failing to clinch at home in Game 5. Tipoff for Game 6 is set for 6:30 p.m. PT at Toyota Center, with national coverage on Prime Video.
Los Angeles opened the matchup with three straight victories despite the continued absence of leading scorer Luka Doncic and guard Austin Reaves, who had been sidelined since April 2. Reaves returned for Game 5 and recorded 22 points and six assists, but shot just 4-for-16 from the field as the Lakers fell 99-93 at Crypto.com Arena on April 29.
The series now stands at 3-2 in favor of the Lakers. Historically, no NBA team has erased a 3-0 deficit, and only four have forced a seventh game. Nevertheless, Houston enters Game 6 with momentum after limiting Los Angeles to 7-for-27 shooting from three-point range in the latest contest.
LeBron James, who carried much of the scoring load through the first three games, saw several late attempts fall short in Game 5. Fatigue could become an additional factor with just one off-day between contests and the same spacing if a decisive Game 7 is required.
Rockets forward Kevin Durant remains unlikely to play Friday as he recovers from an ankle bone bruise. If Los Angeles cannot close out on the road, Game 7 would be held Sunday, May 3, at Crypto.com Arena, also on Prime Video.
