The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard Quentin Grimes, the team announced Monday. Financial details were not released, but league sources indicated the contract is valued at $60 million over four years and includes a player option in the final season.

Grimes, 25, arrives from the Philadelphia 76ers and will wear No. 5 for Los Angeles, the number last used by Deandre Ayton.

Journeyman path to Los Angeles

Selected 25th overall by the New York Knicks in the 2021 NBA Draft, the 6-4 guard has also suited up for the Detroit Pistons, Dallas Mavericks and 76ers. Last season in Philadelphia he appeared in 75 games, starting 19, and averaged 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 45% from the floor and 33.4% from beyond the arc on 5.1 attempts per game. For his career, Grimes owns a 36.6% three-point percentage.

The move reunites him with former Dallas teammate Luka Dončić and gives new head coach JJ Redick another perimeter option.

Summer work with Redick

Before joining the Lakers, Grimes reached out to Redick via direct message to arrange offseason workouts in the Hamptons. During those sessions, the former sharpshooter focused on Grimes’ footwork and shooting mechanics, insight the guard later called “amazing.”

Grimes is expected to fill a rotational backcourt role as Los Angeles continues reshaping its roster ahead of the 2026-27 season.
