The Los Angeles Lakers have expressed interest in Syracuse forward William Kyle III as the 2026 NBA Draft approaches, league sources told reporter Jake Fischer.
Fischer said Kyle ended his pre-draft workout schedule after meeting with 11 franchises, declining five additional invitations because of positive feedback. Teams linked to the 6-foot-9, 230-pound rim protector include both 2026 Finals participants, New York, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Boston and the Lakers.
Limited Draft Capital, Ongoing Evaluations
Los Angeles currently holds only the No. 25 pick and has no second-round selection. The organization has a history of purchasing or trading for later picks and could target undrafted players after the draft concludes.
Kyle’s Collegiate Profile
Kyle began his college career at South Dakota State, earning 2024 Summit League Defensive Player of the Year honors, before transferring to Syracuse for his final season. In 32 starts with the Orange, he averaged 8.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.
Known for high energy and switchability, Kyle excels as a rim-runner and shot-blocker but attempted no three-pointers in college and holds a 54.4 percent career free-throw mark.
Fit With Lakers’ Needs
Lakers star Luka Doncic recently told reporters he hopes the front office adds a rim-running center this offseason, a profile that aligns with Kyle’s skill set. Los Angeles has previously moved into the second round to secure targeted prospects and could consider a similar approach if the 22-year-old remains on the board.
