The Los Angeles Lakers could regain two key starters when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night. The team’s latest injury report labels Luka Doncic (left finger sprain, left leg contusion) and Marcus Smart (right quad contusion) as questionable for the game at FedExForum.
LeBron James (right sciatica), Gabe Vincent (left ankle sprain), Maxi Kleber (abdominal strain) and rookie Adou Thiero (left knee surgery recovery) remain out.
Doncic has missed the past three contests, but head coach JJ Redick said prior to Wednesday’s win in Minnesota that the swelling in the guard’s leg had subsided and his finger was improving. “We’re hopeful at some point in the next couple games we’ll have him back in the lineup,” Redick noted.
Before the injuries, the 26-year-old superstar averaged 46.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists over his first two outings. Smart has sat out two games but could return against his former club, providing much-needed perimeter defense and ball-handling.
Los Angeles enters Friday at 3-2 after Austin Reaves drilled a game-winning shot to beat the Timberwolves. With group play in the inaugural Emirates NBA Cup also beginning in Memphis, the Lakers are aiming to close their road trip on a high note.
