Lakers lay off staff across several departments in ongoing restructuring

The Los Angeles Lakers dismissed more than a dozen employees on Wednesday as part of a broad organizational overhaul initiated by new controlling owner Mark Walter, according to sources familiar with the decision.
Staff reductions affected multiple business units, including marketing, team communications, team content, and corporate partnerships. The move follows months of changes within the franchise’s front office and business operations.
Lon Rosen, hired earlier this year to oversee the club’s business strategy, is directing many of the changes. Rosen—who began his career as a Lakers intern before working in business and marketing for the Los Angeles Dodgers—succeeded longtime executive Tim Harris, who spent over 30 years with the organization.
While trimming positions on the business side, the Lakers continue to expand their basketball operations group. Last week the franchise hired Rohan Ramadas as assistant general manager of strategy and data systems, placing him in charge of basketball analytics and strategic initiatives. The team still plans to add a second assistant GM focused on player development and scouting.
The ongoing reorganization also includes relocating the club’s G League affiliate to California’s Coachella Valley, a move designed to free space at the UCLA Health Training Center for a new biomechanics laboratory and other technological upgrades.
On the court, Los Angeles enters an offseason featuring several high-profile pending free agents, among them LeBron James, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura.
