The Los Angeles Lakers used the 24th pick in the 2026 NBA Draft to take Baylor guard Cameron Carr after sending cash considerations to the New York Knicks to move up one spot from No. 25.
Carr, listed at 6-foot-5 with a 7-0 wingspan, projects as a 3-and-D wing. At the NBA Draft Combine he recorded the second-fastest lane-agility time, the second-best standing vertical leap, and the third-best max vertical leap.
The guard transferred to Baylor for the 2025-26 season following two limited years at the University of Tennessee. In his lone campaign with the Bears, he averaged 18.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.3 blocks while shooting 49.4 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from three on 6.1 attempts per game. He led Baylor in scoring and had double-figure points in 32 of 34 contests, posting at least three assists and multiple blocks in 16 games apiece.
Los Angeles lacked perimeter athleticism last season; Carr’s combination of speed and vertical pop addresses that need while offering floor spacing as both a stationary and movement shooter. Playing alongside Luka Doncic, and potentially Austin Reaves and LeBron James, is expected to generate cleaner looks than he saw in college.
With Carr and 2025 draft pick Adou Thiero, the Lakers now have two athletic wings tailored to today’s pace and space style. The coaching staff will focus on turning Carr’s physical tools into a consistent rotation role.
The trade to acquire Carr hard-caps the Lakers at the projected $222 million second apron for the coming season, though the club is not expected to approach even the first apron.
